the Canterbury Shotokan Karate Club
(Formally known as Canterbury Christ Church University Karate Club)
Karate is a Japanese martial art which uses kicks, punches and blocks.
Shotokan is a style which emphasises low stances, long movements and the
generation of great power.
Canterbury Shotokan Karate Club was founded in 1981 and is the oldest,
continuously running club in the University.
A typical session includes training for flexibility, training for general
fitness, basic movements (kihon), patterns of defence against several
opponents (kata) and some sparring (kumite).
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30pm
